I just received this campaign notice in the
mail today......
Dear M-B Owner,
Your vehicle is equipped with a harmonic balancer
pulley bla bla bla. Due to a supplier quality
problem, the harmonic balancer in certain model years 1998-2001 bla bla bla is subject to high under-hood
temeratures with deteriorating performance, drivability, and with noticeable vibration bla bla bla....It will be replaced w/o charge so on and
so forth.
Just a notice for those who might not have received the Campaign yet.

This has been posted several times here and at forums.mb-world.org (remove the dash from that url). If you do a search for harmonic balancer you'll find it; I posted one in the general forum here a while back with the summary details.
islandiron:
I'm the 2nd or 3rd owner of my 99 E320 but haven't
received the campaign letter (yet). Please make a
high resolution scan of yours, in color, and send it
to me. ;-) (maybe i can.....) In return, I'll send
you a lotto ticket.
Raymond - does MBUSA know that you own the car? You need to let them know if not. Otherwise the recall notice goes to the last known owner and he'll likely throw it in the trash.
sokoloff - i wrote my response tongue-in-cheek, implying
i would Photochop it to my VIN. but now I get to
thinking...more seriously... if I have already brought
in my car to dealer for misc repair, plus, i registered
on the M-B site (don't remember what that was for) by
plugging in name/addr/vin...do you think that will
suffice?
Don't beat yourselves up over this. There are over 300K cars involved, so MBZ has to do it systematically. I was tired of waiting so I went and found the appropriate information, which is why I posted the thread in the general forum.
There are only two part numbers involved, if you want to know if your car is included then look for yourself instead of waiting for them to get to you. More details are in the thread I posted here: http://forums.benzworld.org/forums/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1212149
