Window problems following battery replacement ?

I replaced the battery on our `01 E320 yesterday 30k miles- entered radio code, got ABS/BAS fault warnings- cranked steering wheel lock to lock 3x and messages were off.

Put driver's window down today - -it wouldn't go back up-- ditto w/rear window. Child locks off. Was able to hold switch down and raise window by hand ( it's 107 here today)

No other fault codes, malfunctions or warning lights.

Could problem be related to battery replacement or [?][?][?]
Regards-

RE: Window problems following battery replacement ?

Hey, CQ. Used to live in the valley, can appreciate the heat. But you had a really nice spring up to a few weeks ago. [:)]

If you have a good tactile sense you'll note there are actually two positions for the window. If you press the switch all the way down (past the first soft detent) you're engaging the "auto" one-touch feature, which is disabled after the battery is disconnected. You have to resynch it on each window. I did this a couple of weeks ago but don't remember the procedure exactly, it is in your owners manual.

FYI, the window will go back up, but you have to only engage the switch to the first detent; rock it gently and you'll find it. It's kind of odd, but hey, it is a German machine. [;)]

Good luck and enjoy the ride,
Greg

RE: Window problems following battery replacement ?

Thanks Greg - - I'll give it a shot.

It it sometimes out of the range of practicality for my spousal unit to patiently describe an auto-based problem past the phrase, "the G#@#$mn thing doesn't work!"

You're right - -we had a wonderful spring after the wet winter- - everything's now turning brown, rattlesnakes are plentiful and golf is beginning to become affordable!

Will post results - -thanks again!

Regards

RE: Hope you and your spousal unit

GREG:

You da' man ! Thank you very much- I found the section in the owner's manual on page 50.

Each of the window switches is rocked to the "up" side to the first position and held for 2-3 seconds. You can hear the switch in the door reset.

Viola ! Express up and down are back and the windows operate normally. Spouse's comment, " Hhhmmm- why would they do that?"

I gave her your line: "it's a German machine!"

Here's to ya !

regards-
