E320 Brake light bulb burns out frequently

My wife has a 98 E320 Wagon. The drivers side brake light bulb burns out about once a month, or even more often. I have put every brand of bulb in I can find - no joy. I put in a new socket and that helped - I went two months without a burnout, but it stopped working again today.

Any suggestions? Could not find anything relevant in search.

RE: E320 Brake light bulb burns out frequently

I found on my 1999 E 320 that a bad connection is the cause of this issue. The platic thing (it is either blue, pink or light brown) that holds the bulb that you screw on moves around because of vibration or whatever and then next thing you know you have a brake light warning pop up. I just had my wife put her foot on the brake and I kept turning it back and forth until the light came on ; then I took a few drops of rubber cement and put it on different places so that it will not move around and break the connection. The rubber cement is easy to break off in the event that you really do need a brake light and it seems to help with the vibrations. I know this might seem like a ghetto fix but it worked for me. I hope that this helps.

thanks, i am willing to try it. the benz is our grocery getter/kid hauler, and a ghetto fix is fine by me. just today i soldered in a w140 fan controller to get the AC working right again.

Gents, just a thought, hot glue or silicone seal would probably hold better and longer than rubber cement.

Hopefully I won't have to try this solution for a long, long time. [:)]

So this morning I hot glued the bulb socket on my luxury German automobile, with its Old World craftsmanship. Works fine now.

I'm sure you found the genuine old world hot glue on the shelf next to the adz and baling wire. :)
