I`m a new member to this club and I have a temperature problem with my E-Class W210 1998 Japan spec. The temperature indicator on the dashboard often showed a fluctuation of temperature between 80C to 98C .The problem remained even after changing a new temperature sensor and the thermostat . At one time , the temperature remain high upon reaching home , I then sticked a rolled-newspaper into the fan at the front of the engine , and it was easily stopped . In my opinion , it appeared to be a malfunction of magnetic coupling of the fan to engage to reduce the temperature . My usual service centre advised me to change the fan motor .I was not convinced and I went to get a second opinion . Another service centre adviced me that this is fine so long as the temperature did not exceed 100C . I spoke to a friend also who was quite knowledgeable in Mercedes` general problems and he think it was the SENSOR FOR THE ELECTRICAL CLUTCH FAN that need to be replaced . Basically , I`m just confused . Would anyone kindly shed some light on this problem that I`m facing .Many thanks . [:(]
There is no electric fan clutch.
The difference with temperature in the bending of two different metal alloy plates makes the clutch to engage. 80 to 98 is a good temperature for your car. And the clutch must be working if it didn´t rise above that.
My car rarely engages the fan. And I live in the Caribbean. The electric motor fan (in front of the radiator) and its twin are usually enough to keep the right temp.
When the motor fan is engaged you hear it roaring, but usually for short periods of time.
I think your car is normal.[;)]
