if it's AMG monoblock Aero II front Wheel Offset: +31mm, tire size: 245/40-18 and rear Wheel Offset: +35mm, tire size: 275/35-18 Then yes ! I installed on my e420 without any problems [:D]
I installed AMG Monoblock 3-Piece 8x17 wheels on my 97 E420, and these were taken off my 97 SL500. The Offset is 32MM, and they give just a slightly wider track and a more aggressive appearance when mounted on the E. I have seen other people mount AMG 18x9 from the SL onto E-class without any problem!

RE: will 18" SL500 rims fit on a 97 E420?
Check to make sure the bolt sizes are not 14mm instead of 12mm. The offset on the SL is different than the E.

The bolt patterns are slightly different between the different mercedes models (chasis). You can always look up the different dimensions for each mercedes model on site's like Tire Rack. Good luck
