Yes cats are very expensive! I was quoted $7000.00 I think. but you can always go with some aftermarket highflow cats like $150 ea. provided you find one not too big to fit.any muffler shop can install. mine turned out to be a loose bracket free of charge!
Guess you are not too worried about it if your turning it in.

RE: ratteling underneath car
Who quoted you $7000??? Not even Mercedes exhaust parts cost that much. Maybe $1200 from the dealership becuase it comes with the whole part from the engine back. Aftermarket cats are $80 each and the labor is around $100. I replaced mine with Magnaflows last year.

Yes that is a very high quote. However, the ones for my E55 were over $4,500 if I had to pay for them myself. Good thing Mercedes footed the bill.
If you car has less than 80,000 miles and is less than 10 years old, federal law dictates that they change them for free. If not, you are SOL unless you can convince your dealership to have them good willed. Failed catalytic converters has been a major problem with these cars.
is this 80,000 or under 10 years law written somewhere....will mercedes give you a hard time if you brought your car in for the repair of the cats?
i think it is 80k miles/7 years-- it is a Federal Law every car manufacturer should act within these period... BMW replaces Cats that fail within these period.....YES, it is written in the Emmission Warranty Card in your owners manual
Dealers or MBZ may not like it but you are providing very good and money saving ideas to all E320 owners. I do appreciate the information.
I also live in Orange County.
