Thanking everybody on MBZ forum for invaluable information
New to the forum. With all horror stories on E class, I have been worrying about 2001 E320 sedan with 25000 miles I just bought. My factory warranty expires on June 20, 2005. Should I buy extended warranty?
RE: Thanking everybody on MBZ forum for invaluable information
Well, most experts generally don't recommend extended warranties considering them a needless expense.
Now, with that out of the way, I DID purchase an extended warranty because I want the peace of mind.
If your comfortable with the way the car is performing vis a vie repairs -- you might want to hold off. If the peace of mind is worth it -- don't look back, just do it.

Take it to the dealer just before the warranty expires. I bought an ML at 47,800 miles w/ warranty expiration at 50K. Took it to the dealer at 49,700, asked them to "give it a once over" before the warranty expired. They gave me a free C280 loaner, and kept the ML for almost 2 weeks. By the time I picked it up, they had replaced every little thing you could imagine, to the tune of $5,000+ which didn't cost me a dime. The dealer loves getting checks from MB.
I kept the ML till 100K, and never had any problems with it other than a battery and a fuel pump.
As for e-class "horror stories", I've had my '98 e for a couple of months, and the only thing I've had to do was a drive belt pulley. They'd already done the harmonic balancer. My impression is (knock on wood) these cars are by and large pretty well built and reliable.

Thanks for the tip. You made it by just by hundreds of miles. Good for you. I will try to take your experience and to same befor my warranty expires. I hope it works on me, too.
