I've got my eyes set on a 2002 E55, but that it just me. I prefer the W210 body style over the older and the newer ones. This of course is just my opinion and does not factor in performance, cost or anything else just looks.

I dunno, this is a do you prefer blondes, or brunettes.
Of course, the answer is "yes".
They are both great in very different ways. I think the W124 will feel more like a precision machine to get from point A to point B. The E55 will feel every bit as fast but a little more fussy, a little more highly featured and a little more needy.
They are both great cars. The E55 is newer, but the build quality in the E500 is a bit better.
If I was truly flipping a coin -- I would hope the W124 was the winner.
If your looking for help in confirming the direction you want to go -- that's different.
The 124 e500 is a great car my uncle had one a few years ago but compared to a 210 e55 the e500 is not even in the same class.
Comparing these two cars is like comparing an older super bike to a newer bigger engine faster one with better suspension and better brakes.

There is no question about that W210 E 55AMG is way far superior in terms of its performance, design, and overall aspects of vehicle since it is a new model.
Of course, I will choose new E55 AMG as far as my situation($) meets my demand(desire).[:D]
I love AMG products, too.
At the same time, however, W124 E500 was the collaboration between Mercedes-Benz and Porsche back in the days as you may already know.
How many of you think this kind of joint engineering of two greatest automobile manufactures will happen again? (obviously, there was a joint between Porsche and Volkswagen for Cayenne and Touareg. But, that’s different story)
I do not know.
So, I think maybe about 20 to 30 years from now W124 E500 will hold more value as a collectible car.
