"Brake Lining Wear"

I have a 1999 E320 and last night a message appeared on my dash that reads "Brake Lining Wear". What exactly does that mean because I went to my owner's manual and it doesn't cross reference that warning message anywhere. Also how grave is this warning and what is the next step?

Believe it means that your brake pads are worn and should be replaced shortly

You have about 2-3MM left on the pads. That equals about 2-3 months left.

Though it may sound odd, the 210's brakes were designed in such a stupud way that when you change the pads you should also change the discs. I tend to change my discs every 2 times I change my pads, as they (discs) tend ot wear pretty fast and cant be remachied (incorrect heat dissipation).
