1998 E300 TD Low Beam Problem

Hi there

I hope this is in the right section

I am new to the website and have found the forums on this site an excellent place for reference.

My question has been causing me a headache for over a month now and after visiting several Dealers & Specialists no one can seem to resolve the issue.

Problem:

My car's low beam lights do not come on at all. I have had the holders and bulbs replaced by the main dealers and the on\off switch for the lights in the cabin replaced as well.

There is electric current going to the both of the head lamp units (This was tested by the specialist) but unfortunately this does not arrive at the low beam lights. The full beam lights work perfectly. Strangley enough when you pull back the indicator stalk the low beam lights come on brightly.

Any feedback on this issue will be greatly appreciated as i am quickly running out of ideas...

Thanks for reading [:)]

I'm confused. If you have power at the light, all that's left is a ground.

If you pull back on the stalk and the lights light up, perhaps that's the problem. Have the tech's looked at or replaced that?

Thanks for the reply

Yep - i am confised as well.

The stalk has not been replaced yet - is the stalk part of the low beam circuit?

RE: 1998 E300 TD Low Beam Problem

I am not an expert on this but I expect that the turn stalk has to be part of the entire headlight circuit - low beam as well as high beam.

The stalk provides the light circuit selector between the high and low beams as well as the flashing circuit.

You'll need to find a circuit diagram. I expect it will show power threading back and forth between the light switch, the turn stalk, the relays and the actual lights.

BTW - be sure to bench test all the relays in these circuits. They are easy to replace and the problem you describe could most definitely be attributed to a relay problem - IMHO
