| RE: 1998 E300 TD Low Beam Problem I am not an expert on this but I expect that the turn stalk has to be part of the entire headlight circuit - low beam as well as high beam.
The stalk provides the light circuit selector between the high and low beams as well as the flashing circuit.
You'll need to find a circuit diagram. I expect it will show power threading back and forth between the light switch, the turn stalk, the relays and the actual lights.
BTW - be sure to bench test all the relays in these circuits. They are easy to replace and the problem you describe could most definitely be attributed to a relay problem - IMHO
