Brake fluid question

Can I use DOT 4 silicon brake fluid in my 01 E320 without any problems? or is there something unique to the MB brand? Thanks

The owners manual does not specify any type.

RE: Brake fluid question

Is there such a thing as DOT4 silicone? I thought silicone was only a DOT5 and not recommended. There is a synthetic DOT4 that is just fine.

RE: Brake fluid question

Yeah, It's a Valvoline Silicone, that is compatible with dot 3 or 4.

RE: Brake fluid question

I've also never heard of Dot 4 silicone. Only synthetic. I've always been told silicone is only used where specified because it does not absorb water and allows water to collect in the brake system.
