I am thinking about uppgrading my 2,3 liter engine, but I'm not sure it's the best alternative. The easiest way must be to buy a new car. The second alternativ is to fit a compressor on the old 2,3 engine.
Anyone here with a point of view on this subject??
Most of the job I'll do myselfe, since I'm a mecanic. Time, space and money is no problem for me.
I think it all depends on your current car. If you are satisfied with the rest of the car (options, colour etc) thank maybe you should go for the upgrade, but if you are getting a little tired of it than get rid of it and get something with a bit more grunt.
Just remember to think this through, because cars which have had transpalnts NEVER sell well.
I hope you realise that the E230 with a supercharger produces the same power as a E320. If you are happy with that much power (approx 230bhp) you should perhaps consider spending your $8500 on another car (including trading yours in).
But, if you are like me and love your car, then just get the supercharger. (I'm also doing this for my E280)
As for brakes, your car has the same brakes as the E320 so you shold be fine (maybe you should get them checked/ replaced when you go for the supercharger). As far as I know those brakes (original ones) are good enough till 280bhp (power output of a E430).
I would get a 320. Same power as supercharged 230, more reliable, lower cost, you will grow to like it as much as your current one. If it is still not fast enough you can supercharge that or get an 420 or e55!
