My 1999 model E 240 have a bad mass sensor. I have read some place ,the are possible to repar the sensor, but I can't find it. Have anyone read about this ? [?]
Good luck on that one. They are very delicate (unfortunately) and are critical to the proper operation of the engine. Basically, they measure the volume of air by putting a precise electrical current through the wires in the middle -- and measure the changing resistance.
It's too bad they are so expensive. I would check ebay (and make sure it's warranted to work) or the discount parts sellers (many listed in posts here).
I'm not sure I would ever want my reliability tied to a "repaired" Mass Airflow Sensor. IMHO
I think by repair he means cleaning. I think I've read you can remove it and clean it with an electrical parts spray cleaner. Often, they simply get dirty. If you're going to replace it anyway, what would it hurt to try? Remove the part, spend $5.00 on some spray and see what happens. If that's what you're talking about, let us know how it turns out.
O'boy. Today I buy a new air mass sensor from a Mercedes dealer. ($320,00)What a difference. The car have been slow and very rough idle. After the new sensor ,the car are better than new.( 64k) The car accelerate much quicker than before. (Sorry my bad english) I try to clean the old sensor with q-tips, bruch and alcohol. Negativ. Worse than before I try to clean it. Thank you all for post . Regards Arvid
