I need your help please!!!!!

Despite mixed responses from MB dealers on whether a 1998 E320 wood/leather steering wheel can be fitted on a 2000 E320, I bought the 1998 steering wheel from eBay because it was a great deal. So I took a chance here - no question about it.

My current dilemma is that the MB dealer would charge the labor fees whether they are able to fit it or not. And they won't know until they take it apart. I tried to disassemble it myself, but it was hard for me to do.

My questions:

1)- Has anyone fitted a 1998 E320 steering wheel on a 2000 E320 and what did you have to do to make it fit?

2)- If it's not a direct fit, can pieces from my 2000 E320 wheel be transferred onto the 1998 steering wheel to make it fit?

3)- If anyone has a picture of the brackets and connectors on the 1998 E320 and the 2000 E320 steering wheels, please post them.

RE: I need your help please!!!!!

I Would NOT Install a EARLY Steering wheel on a Late car!..You Will lose all the Multifunction controls ..
Also the air bag is different...
Plus the EARLY Steering wheels dont look as Good as the Late style ones...IMO you would be going Backwards

I Would resell the 1998 Steering wheel and Locate the CORRECT steering wheel!

If Interested in a Wood Leather Steering Wheel Contact Steve @ MBENZ.nl Great Prices!

RE: I need your help please!!!!!

Mark,

I just found a steering wheel out of an '03 CLK500. In a previous thread you mentioned that late model CLK's would work. I just wanted to make sure as I don't want to end up with two steering wheels to sell!

I am attaching a picture of it. Would it fit my 2000 E320? Thanks.

RE: I need your help please!!!!!

Storm,
Thanks for the response. In looking at the thread you referenced, it indicates the following:

Mercedes E W210 10/'99 ->
Mercedes CLK W208 10/'99 ->

Does this mean that the E and CLK stering wheels are interchangeable after 10/'99? If yes, can I then conclude that the '03 CLK steering wheel will fit the '00 E without modifications?

Yes that is exactly what it means, and therefore 03 CLK steering wheels will fit your 00 E without any modification.

Good luck[8D]

RE: I need your help please!!!!!

Great, thanks Storm.

If anyone is interested in buying a 1998 E320 steering wheel, please let me know. The wheel is Burlwood walnut and Beige/Oyster leather and is new (never been mounted before).
