Steering Wheel Installation

Does anyone know how to disassemble a sterring wheel on a 2000 E320 (with multi-function buttons)? I bought a wood/leather steering wheel to replace the all-leather wheel I currently have. The dealer wants $75 for installation, but I have a feeling that it may be a simple job, but then again I've never done it before.

Any help here is appreciated.

RE: Steering Wheel Installation

The Install should take about 5 Min Max!
You will need a Long Torx socket to remove the Air Bag
and a Allen socket for the steering wheel...1/2 drive
with a breaker bar..some are on tight!

70.00 for a five min job...Its the correct tools and The Know how. Ahhh the Stealership

RE: Steering Wheel Installation

Do I need a female or male Torx socket?
What size Torx socket?
What size Allen socket and why ½ drive? Can it be 3/8?

Would you please reply with a step-by-step procedure? I have button controls on my air bag assembly. Is there something unique about disconnecting and re-connecting the wires?

Thanks in advance for your help. If it works out, I’ll use the $75 for a dinner out with the family. And, of course, I’ll buy you a drink if you’re ever in the Austin, Texas area!

RE: Steering Wheel Installation

On the back of the wheel there are two whole's for a 6mm alen wrench. those two bolts will release the air bag assembly, it should come out away from the wheel a few inches so that you can disconect the air bag from the wheel. Then you'll take a large male torques socket on whatever size drive you want and unscrew the center bolt. No special precautions need to be taken to unplug the airbag, just leave the key out of the ignition. Easy as one, two, three. congrats on the new wheel, I couldn't do without mine.
