thanks to this forums help i found the wires, got the cd changer on ebay, saved 300 bucks. found the bracket online and saved $60. now if i can only find out how to mount the changer and the bracket to the trunk... can anyone please help, i hate to pay for things that can be done on your own. 1999 320 e. send me a picture if possible???
The bracket mounts on the left side of the boot (trunk), (drivers side in the US). All you need to do is screw the changer to the bracket (the screws should be attached to the changer when you bought it) , plug in the power and fibre (fiber) optic cables. Finally you need to mount the changer to the little lip sticking out on the left side of the boot (trunk), some peole use screws, I used 2 bolts & 2 nuts. [:D]I had a few pics of my changer installed in my car, I'll try to find them and post them soon.
I looked at your bracket and it's not the same factory bracket. It looks like an after market bracket. But if you can attach the CD Changer to it either using screws that came with the CD changer or the bracket, you're alomost there. After the CD changer is attached to the bracket, the right angle mounting brackets must be connected to the main bracket. These right angle brackets are then attached to the trunk edge on the driver's side using 2 screws (holes should be pre-drilled on the trunk chassis). In my case, the CD changer is about 2 inches above the main trunk surface. I'm assuming you already found the Fiber cable and the power cable behind the trunk panel and made sure that the Changer is working?
yes i did. so now instead of mounting it where you are talking about i was thinking of mounting it up underneath the back ledge between the speakers, what do you think? the trunk edge on the driver's side is just too tight and none of the holes seem to line up properly. i figure i can reroute the wires and have it mounted right where you can see it when you open the trunk? of course i'll have to drill, so if you know a reason why i shouldn't mount it there please let me know. there only seems to be some padding and of course i won't get near the speakers. just a rookie at this but it looks like it should work.
It should work in theory. In fact it's probably a better spot for it anyway. Having said that, I am not sure about the horizontal orientation. It seems like the CD Changer is designed to take the cartridge in a vertical position, but then again, I've seen CD changers in other cars mounted horizontally. The other thing you have to worry about is the integrity and rigidity of the Changer mounted between the speakers vs. where it was designed to be mounted. Would it sustain road bumps? Remember the CD Changer is heavy and in a vertical position it gets support from the side of the trunk. What about skipping in a horizontal position vs. a vertical one?
I know you're looking for answers and I may have added more questions. If you're really keen on mounting it horizontally, see if you can test it flat in a horizontal position (as intended) on the flat surface of the trunk with support.
your way will work, and alot of people have done this fitment before. So feel free to go ahead with the job (though it might be a good idea to remove the rear shelf first just in case).
Personally I would reccommend you go to your nearest dealer or scrapyard and get an original bracket though.
there are windows on the side of the cd player which have a spring inside that can be set to h for horizontal and v for verticle or r for rear or reversed or rotated which i think is rotated.
i'm not sure what you mean by, remove the rear shelf and if its what i think it is why?
You'll have to drill through the metal to mount the changer, I suggested to remove the board just in case you drill through the board as well, and it would be easier to fit the bolts that way.
