As part of my ongoing upgrades to my 2000 E320, I am considering painting the brake calipers to match the color of my car - a purely cosmetic upgrade. Does this cause any problems? If ok, is there a recommended paint and procedure?
Also, the rotors are a little rusty. They are the OEM parts. Is there a way to clean them or do I have to change them with some flashy ones?
Projects so far:
1)- Wooden shift knob (Done and looks great!)
2)- Chrome headlight rings (Done and looks great!)
3)- CD Changer (Bought, to be installed on 11/22/04)
4)- Wood/leather steering wheel (Searching to buy)
5)- Bluetooth phone kit (Searching to buy)
6)- Brake calipers paint (Under evaluation)
And the list keeps growing! It is as fun as it is expensive.
Make sure you degrease your calipers first (the area you want to paint), then use a wire brush to remove the rust. Also make sure you only paint on non moving parts and that no paint gets in between the pads and caliper and disc/rotor.
As for the rotors, as soon as you use them the rust on their face should be scraped off by the pad. However I feel that I shoudl point out that alot of people recommend that you change the rotors every time you change the pads on the 210 (something about the rotors being made of a softer compound or something).
