I was curious if anyone new about servicing a 97' e320 tranny. The fluid is like a dark green from the factory, there is no dip stick, with a cap saying bring to workshop. Dealer says lifetime tranny fluid, lifetime? I dont think so, so I'm changing it anyways...I was curious if anyone else had done the samething before.
And another thing, I just did a major service on the car but havent reset the flexible service's A and B. I was reading on alldata that, theres no tool to reset like BMW's, but to play with the ignition and preset the 0 button on the cluster panel.
If anyone could give me some advice on each I would appreciate it
thanks!!
like i said a while ago, MAKE SURE YOU USE OEM Mercedes Tranny Fluid ONLY otherwise you are risking a Tranny Failure...Our W210s come with "Lifetime Fluid". IMO, there is no such thing as lifetime especially with Fluids. Newer Trannys(like new Land Rovers, BMWs, etc.) are designed for VERY SPECIFIC "LIFETIME" FLUID TYPES, if you use a non specific one you are risking a Tranny Failure. USE ONLY MB Tranny Fluid.
I have replaced the tranny fluid on my e320. It is not a big deal. As said in another reply, be sure to use MB fluid only. Also, order yourself another cap for the tube where the dipstick might be. When you take it off you quite possibly will break the locking mechanism on it.
Do a search on the forums about resetting the service light. I know it is out there.
Hi W210, you dont mention what mileage is on your car.
The wisdom with 2Lifetime transmission Fluids is that theyre good for about 100K Mls.
There is a sponge filter in the Gearbox that you could also replace. Again, use only the recommended Fluid.
Good Luck.
