w210 steering wheel interchange

The leather on my steering wheel is rotting away. rather then pay the dealer price, I've been shopping elsewhere. Does anyone know any other years or models that will interchange with a 98 E300?

RE: w210 steering wheel interchange

Thank You. There was a nice steering wheel off a w202 that I was thinking about buying to replace mine. Good thinkg to know they they fit.

Any issues with fitting the airbags at all between the years?

RE: w210 steering wheel interchange

The airbags are all the same, make sure you use your original one though.

Best advice is to remove the battery terminals before you start your work (just to be on the safe side). On the back/under side of the steering wheel you will find a few TX screws (T-25H or T-27H can't remember). Open them to remove the airbag, then just unclip the (if memory serves correct) yellow clip and remove the airbag. The steering is attached to the rod with a single nut. Dont worry about centering the new wheel because there are marks which will indicate the centre (0) point.

Then all you have to do is attach the clip to the airbag, refit the screws and attach the battery cables.

All done. Takes about 30 minutes on a W210.

Good Luck[8D]

RE: w210 steering wheel interchange

If you exchange the airbag too, you have more selection. You can swap the steering wheel and airbag from the SLK for example for a different look.

You can even move it to the other side of the car with the right parts...[:D]

RE: w210 steering wheel interchange

[:)] Great info Storm, I was planning a steering wheel swap sometime over the fall/winter and your info is very appreciated.

Also maybe i'll have to think more about moving it to the other side...hmmm I might have to make that one a weekend project [:D]
