I need somebody (anybody) with COMAND expertise to help.
have an early MY00 (built 01/00) US model W210 (post facelift with steering wheel conrols and informaiton display in dash) and COMAND which has now failed (goes black during dealer diagnostic checks and reports internal errors) and needs replacement.
Dealer says part number changes in cars made before or after 6/00. Mine is 210 820 49 89 and newer unit is 210 820 55 89.
Someone told me that the 49 model is for a no CAN bus, but in my car COMAND volume operates from the steering wheel so isn't it talking to the CAN bus?
Will a leter model US 55 (or 52?) unit (I occationally listen to AM beleive it or not) work in my car? Any issues or loss of functionality if I go with a used later model?

If it works off the steering wheel then it is can operated. If it is the Euro version then AM wont work properly.
Is your Comand still covered under warranty. I also have a 2000 E320 with a comand.I understand that to replace this Comand unit will cost about $8,000. So far no problems with mine.
