I have a silly question. Would 2002 E500 mirrors fit a 97 E320? I am looking to replace a broken driver side mirror and since at it, I am thining of upgrading both of them to the newer types.

The E500 (W211) came out as a 2003 model and the mirror are a bit different. You can put the 2000 to 2002 (W210) mirrors on the 96 - 99 (W210) with changes to the connector/wiring.

Thanks for your reply. After looking at the picture of your upgraded mirrors, I am sort of inclined to upgrade mine as well. I found these online and was wondering if they would fit my 97 E320. Here is a picture:
The person who is selling these says that they will fit my car but as you said if these are from off of a 2003, they might not. Just wanted to be sure before buying them. Is it hard to make changes to the wiring/connector?
On the same note, I was talking to a co-worker of mine and he was saying that doing the alteration to wiring/connector could be a pain[:(]. I might just stick to the OEM mirror. You said that you had the driver side assembly and mirror. Does yours have the memory feature? Let me know and the price??

That is one from a 2002 E320/E430/E55. No E500 in 2002.
I used the wiring from the original mirrors and the motors in the 2000+ mirrors before installing them. Once you take both the old and the new mirrors off and switch all of the internal parts to the new frame, it mounts right back on with only 2 new wires added for the blinker in each. One wire is a ground connection so that just goes the a body stud. The other gets tapped in the the wire going to the rear taillight/brakelight in the door sill.

Basically you have to take the inner door panels off and remove the mirrors from the door. Then you have to pop the cover on the sill to connect the wires. The whole assembly has to be replaced if you go with the OEM 2000+ mirrors. There are sets of aftermarket covers that fit on the original miror frames. You sitll have to wire in the blinker. I like the OEM look so I picked up a set off of german ebay for about $150. Then you have to add in the exchange rate and the shipping.
