Hello,
This happened a few months ago when I was washing the car and kind of pushed the mirror while applying soap on it and it sort of popped out of place[:p] .I then took it the whole mirror off of the car and opened it up. The spring had popped out of place and the holder that holds the spring got chipped off. I somehow managed to put the spring back and yesterday the same thing happened again.
Can someone tell me where I could buy a used mirror assembly (minus the shell)? I would love to upgrade to the 2001+ mirrors but getting the new shells painted could be a pain and expensive. Do they sell them pre-painted?
BTW, mine is a 1997 E320 (Azure blue)

You can get them prepainted from the dealer but you will pay more for them. You can take just the covers to a body shop and have them painted to match for about $50. I upgraded my mirrors on my 96 and have the original frame if you want to just replace the original one on your 97. I can let it go cheep...[:D]
