I have a 1997 E320. I am having problem with windshield wiper. The unit turns on by itself. Not sure what triggers it? Appreciate any feedback.

You probably have auto sensing wipers. The sensor is located behind the rear view mirror. It has a black cover that will snap off. I have one on my 01. I had to have one replaced when I had the windshield replaced. The one that came with the new windshield was defective. I hope this helps you.

Are the wipers in the off position or are they in the I position.

In the I position, with auto wipers, the wiper will wipe whenever the sensor (it is blue from the outside) gets covered.

Did 97's get autosensing wipers? or was that in 98 ?

I have a e420 but no autosensor.
