Speaker size

I recently purchased a 1998 E320 and the speakers blew after installing a Kenwood CD player. The CD's got extremely hot after playing also. I would like to change the speakers but I did not receive an owner's manual (i bought the car from a friend) and the spaekers are not helping either. I belive that they are a size 6.5" but I would like a second opinion. I would also appreciate a recommendation on brand names to replace the ones I have.

RE: Speaker size

I would suggest going to a stereo installer, and have him/her measure the enclosure, and that should give you/them an idea what size should go there. As for what to buy,go to Crutchfield.com,and look over what they have,DON'T BUY FROM THEM,as they are overpriced, just look there, and get the model number, then go to Best Buy,where they have better prices, and probable free installation.....Good Luck.. RE: Speaker size

Inquire about Boston Accustics, Memphis audio, Focal and JL Audio. These are some of the best.

It's a Benz, so if your going to do it, do it right.

RE: Speaker size

Most modern head units toast the CD; the only fix seems to be a head without internal amplifiers, and amps in the boot, with a load of wiring back to the speakers.

RE: Speaker size

I just went to Best Buy.
The audio techinician and I looked up the speaker size for my 96 e320. It has 4--- 5.25 speakers. The stock speakers only accept a max 10 watts per speaker. Head unit now a days put out 50 watts per channel. A capasitor needs to be placed on each channel to make sure that it the stok speakers don't blow!!!!
