99 E320 DRIVER'S SIDE Seat Adjustment/Window...LOCKED?

I feel like a real nitwit asking about this, but on the drivers side, the buttons for adjusting the seat and the window operation, are "dead". Passenger side is fine. This happened to us one time before, and we went through all the fuses, and they were fine. If memory serves me correct, it seems like we pushed some button, and it unfroze theses buttons. We have pushed virtually every button in the car, and the controls are "dead" on the driver door. I looked in the manual, and it does not list a "lock" that I may have pushed in place.I hope I am making some sense here! Is there a "lock" on the driver side seat and window controls?? If so, WHERE do I unlock it? Poor husband can't drive this car, till we figure out how to re-activate these controls, because the seat is set for my body. HELP!

It sounds like the control module has gone bad to me. The seat, steering wheel, and memory controls are all in that module in the door. To change it, you need to pull the door panel and snap it out.

You say the window doesn't work on the drivers side too. The window switches are not in the door but next to the shift lever.

This is the module that I am talking about.

RE: 99 E320 DRIVER'S SIDE Seat Adjustment/Window...LOCKED?

I'm sorry....I don't know why I included the windows in that!! Yes, you are correct, it is that control that you show a picture of, that is not working. The funny thing is, that this happened one time before, but for the life of us, we can't recall what we did, to make it work again. We thought that maybe we pushed some sort of unlock button. So other than a fuse, there is no magic button to push, to make this work again?

RE: 99 E320 DRIVER'S SIDE Seat Adjustment/Window...LOCKED?

E-Klasse, disregard the previous email,.....The drivers window is included as not working. All the other windows are fine. So, to sum up, it IS the driver's window AND the controls on the drivers door, that are not working. I suppose that we should check the fuses once more. Like I stated in my first post, this happened about a month ago, and after fiddling around with all the controls in the car (probably had nothing to do with us pushing all the buttons) the controls started working again. So there is not a child "Lock" button that freezes these controls? Sounds like a trip to the dealer is in order?

Does the drivers side mirror operate? If nothing in the drivers door is operating, I would think the the wires going to the door have a fault in the harness. Check to see if they did not get pinched. See if any wires are unplugged in the cable tray under the door sill.

An unlikely fix, but a cheap and easy try. Disconnect the negative battery cable, leave it off for a minute or two and then hook it back up. Make sure you have your radio code before doing this. :)

The best way to do this is to pop the cover on the small panel near the floor on the passenger side rear footwell. There is a negative battery disconnect there so that you don't have to pull the seat out.

RE: 99 E320 DRIVER'S SIDE Seat Adjustment/Window...LOCKED?

Well I wont have to pop the cover off anything, for the time being. I got into the car and shut the door and tried the buttons,.....and they all WORKED! I do believe that it is what you said, E-Klasse,......a pinched wire. The next time this happens, I will open and shut the door a few times and see if this "unpinches" the wire. Thank you for your help!!

Every electrical device needs a common Negative connection to the body of the car in order to complete the electrical circuit. It sounds like you have a loose ground connection in the door or at the door jam. This would cause the whole door to have no power or control intermittently.
