I have a '96 E320 purchased from the original owner, Car has 110k miles. I am frustrated by terrible AM reception in general. I noticed that I get interference whenever the fan is on, and the static increases the higher the setting. Back in the day, I know you could use a "resistor" type of sparkplug that sometimes would help minimize interference. As a newbie, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on what the cause of the problem may be, and how to fix it? Thanks! Great Forum by the way!

RE: AM Radio Static
The stock antenna is not that good for reception and you can't use a different type of spark plug either. You might be able to install an aftermarket antenna.

I've owned several BMW's before my E320. Information is readily available to do most ayting, or at least to get anunderstanding of what needed to be done to fix a problem. I wish MB info was that available. Anyone know where the am antenna might be???
raymags, I hear ya on that antenna thing! AM radio has some great talk stations on it, but you would think that they are located on the moon, with the reception that I get. FM isn't much better. Foe awhile, I was thinking that the factory forgot to install an antenna on my car. I guess this is a common problem. Hmmm....wonder if a coat hanger would help? lol
I wish I could somehow use the phone antenna! It just sits here, ocking me, while I'm struggling to hear a ballgame! LOL Seriously, does anyone out there have asolution short of ripping out the rear window defogger/antenna and starting all over???

RE: AM Radio Static
I think the FM antenna is in the rear window while the AM one is on the back of the rear bumper. It you don't use the phone, hook the stereo in to that antenna or use that mounting hole to install a better antenna for the stereo.
