Dont know how to do that exactly, but you might want to go one better anyway... my suggestion - Eibach Springs, Bilstein shocks. Also - the Tire Rack had some newer (2000 up) style 17" ad 18" MB 5 spoke sport wheels , (not OEM, replicas) that looked great and cost right. Might contact them, they are a sponsor of this site and available on the Tire forum.

As for the Tire Rack, go to there website and once you list your car, you can see all of the availble suspension components, wheels, and tires.

As for your original title, "convert stock to sport version", I guess my question is do you want to truely replicate that version or do you want to improve the handling upon your existing non-sport car? If you current '97 is stock and you have not even replaced the shocks yet, then any of the shocks listed at the Tirerack will make a noticable difference in overall feel.

RE: convert stock to sport version

I just went through all this so I hope my research helps you.....(just rememeber that in the markets i know the OEM tyre is 215/55ZR16)

AMG Monoblock II
F 8x18 ET31 with 235/40ZR18's (Part# B6 603 1007)
R 9x18 ET35 with 265/35ZR18's (Part# B6 603 1001)

The 210 can handle almost any ET between 30 & 40 and as far as I know the max rim size on the front is 8.5x19 and 10x19 on the rear (obviously you can go bigger but then you have to do some major changes)

For 17's you need 7x17 ET35 (Front) and 8x17 ET30 (Rear). I can't remember the correct tyre size but i think it was 235/45ZR17

In both cases I have told you about the staggered setup but you can put the same rims/tyres on the back as the ones on the front.

Suspension (if you want AMG) is part number B6 603 0001

Hope my post helps, but remember I am quoting parts which are standard in the UK, Asia & middle East. US Spec may be different, but I don't think so except for the Maybe 17's.

Sorry I cant help you with the bodykit, but I know Ebruni does a very convincing conversion.

Good luck.[8D]

RE: convert stock to sport version

thanks storm for your response,
what would help with reducing body roll and sportier ride: changing to springs or increasing wheel size the most?

Change the shocks and put on wider wheels and tires.

RE: convert stock to sport version

Like E-Klasse said, go for stiffer shocks and wider wheel/tyre combo.... HUGE difference.

Unlike the BMW, the "Sport" designation of all MB vehicles is only body cladding

and wheel/tire upgrade, usually to the AMG equivalent. You don't get any suspension changes. I agree with all others who have adviced you to upgrade your springs/shocks/tires and get some nice bodywork from any of the numerous vendors around.
