Garage Door Programing

How do I program the garage door to work on the rear view mirror buttons? I see three buttons under the mirror housing. I was told you can program these to operate different remotes. I that true? How do I program them

Thanks

Clearly and thoroughly covered in the owner's manual.

Gee thanks Len.

I bought the car used and it didn't come with an owners manual. If I had an owners manual, I wouldn't have asked on this message board. Some Help[:(!]

RE: Garage Door Programing

You're going to need the owner's manual for a lot more than the garage door opener programming. You can get one at your local dealer or by calling 1-800-FORMERCEDES. Last I recall, they were about ten bucks or so.

There are some folks who have an owner's manual and are too damn lazy to read it. Why should I go out to my garage to get mine, look it up and type up directions that someone already has? Sorry, just venting, not at you Jose.

There are a couple of pages of directions for setting up the garage door opener. Need to first know whether you have a garage door with a rolling code feature or not. That's one page of directions. Let me know and I'll help you out.

Go to the Homelink webpage or do an internet search. Homelink is in many cars and is programmed the same way no matter what kind you have.

What year is your E-Class? If it is a 96 or 97, then it will not do rolling code garage doors like the new ones or Gennie are. 98 was the first year to be of much use as far as programming the garage door buttons.

If it has been programmed before, push and hold the 1st and 3rd buttons until the light starts flashing. This will erase anything that has been programmed in them before. You have to have the ignition key in position 1 for it to be powered up.

Hold your garage remote next to the 3 buttons and push it along with one of the buttons. It should flash when it has been programmed.

Check out the subject of Homelink for more details.

RE: Garage Door Programing

Glad to hear it. Not only are they more convenient but you never have to change batteries in the remote again.

RE: Garage Door Programing

That feature was never available in South Africa. To add this, would I have to change my entire mirror? Or is it a separate unit that can be added to the mirror housing?
