I am considering buying a 2000 or 2001 E320 wagon soon and am concerned about the reliability and repair of these cars. As I look at perspective vehicles, they all had numerous warantee repairs done, some significant. Does this continue? Also, I am a trained diesel technician turned mechanical engineer and like to do most of my own maintenance. Are service manuals available (on CD) for these cars?
Any comments regarding this subject would be appriciated. I currently own two other MB's and like the cars, but they are fairly simple to diagnose and repair. I am a bit scared of these new ones with a lot of German electrical engineering (they are excellent mechanical engineers, not so good at electrical).
John, I would strongly recommend looking for a car with Starmark and purchasing the additional FULL bumper to bumper coverage for up to an additional 3 years/100,000 miles.
I've owned 3 different W123 diesels and a W124 coupe. Last year I purchased a Starmark 2000 E430 4Matic still under new car warranty. I bought an additional 3 years of full coverage for a total of 4 years/100,000 miles.
I agree with E430_4matic, a friend of mine just bought a used E300 Turbo diesel after a few days the cars MAS airflow sensor went byebye and now he has to order a new one as well as countless other parts for the whole car.
If only he had listened to me and got the check done, and then got coverage!
