hi everyone, would like to say im glad ot be a new member of these forums. lets start out with my first issue.
im looking at a 2001 e430 sport, and have no idea what to look for in terms of issues. car is a sport package car with 82,000 miles, and is prices for $20,900.00. car seems firm, straight, no accidents, and is a MB lease return. i did smell what seemed to be coolant when i opened the hood while the car was running. i looked further down, and noticed some water sitting on the engine.s bellypan. i dont know if that fluid was melted snow (since we've been hit hard out here with snow), or if it is indeed coolant. could it be a water pump thing at 80k plus miles that is a comon fix or something, or ami getting myself involved with this car?
any other things to look for would greatly help,as i respect everyones experiences with their own cars here on this board.
If you do buy it you must remember that you are buying a car that in spite of its newness as so far as calender time is concerned it does have about 3 times the average mileage for a car that old. Your maint casts thus will be substancially higher than if you were buying an average mile car. The purchase price is reflective of the high mileage and the buyer resistance they are facing. Check out the car's dealer service history and have it looked at by an MB dealer. That would be dollars well spent
how can i go about getting service records using the VIN? i asked a local MB dealer out here, and they said records can only be pulled if the car was ever serviced there. does that mean that I need to know where the car was serviced first?
