Center brake light upgrade...
Before:
After:
I replaced the rear shelf in my 96 E-Class with one from a 2001 with the new center brake light. A month or so ago I instaled a 2002 E55 rear bumper and I had installed the 2002 rear tail lights a year ago. It all looks 2002 from the back.
It is kind of a tribute the the W210 E-Class from 96 to 2002. You see the front as a 96 then the back as a 2002. The year it came in and went out...

RE: Center brake light upgrade...
The only trick is getting the rear headrests off. Once they are out of the way, there are only 2 screws that hold the shelf in. The old brake light has a base that is snapped in to the metal under the shelf. The brake light connector is plugged in to that base. Pull the base out and put a new connector on the wires to connect to the new brake light. You can change the connector from inside the trunk because the wires can hang down in to the trunk.
I have all the instructions completed for the IC and steering wheel upgrade, unfortunatley the file is 68MB due to the photos. The instruction took longer to write than doing the work.
regards
Paul
PS thanks for the shelf tips, does the light come with the parcel shelf and do you have part numbers.
Thank you for sharing your experience.
I have E-Class 2001, from time to time, I hear a noisy sound (zzzz, zzzzz) specially when driving on bad roads. I believe it is coming from the rear shelf or the rear headrests.
I would appreciate if tell me how can I get the rear shelf off. You said there are 2 screws that hold the shelf, where are they located?
