Exclamation won't start, not crank sensor, help!!

hi all, car won't start today. a year ago had problem with the crank sensor, DIY and fixed it. (that was when the engine turn few times and won't start and eventually starts). so got that fixed last year.

this morning, when try to start, it doens't even turn. has display...(like bright, not dimming) so it's not battery (which i hope it was just the battery)

when i turn, it has just one noise "DAT" then that's it. won't start, won't turn.

ANY SUGGESTIONS? i've search the forum and most is regarding the crank shaft sensor which i already fixed and the symtom is diff this time. please help. thank you in advance ppl

by the way, it's a 2003 clk500.

check the battery voltage, then check the battery voltage when you have the key turned to the starter position(like your try to crank it).

Plus one on the battery.
It takes a whole lot more current to engage the starter than turn on lights, from what you describe that would be my vote.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Unhappy Battery is OK... Starter Solenoid Contacts are bad !!!

You say the lights are still bright when you hear the "DAT" sound when turning on the ignition key??? Uh, I vote for a bad Contacts on the Starter Solenoid !!!!

Good Luck ...

Red face .. also try...

Maybe a bad Neutral Safety switch in the transmission shift assembly... try starting the engine with the transmission in Neutral.

Good Luck...

I had the same problem but my was the crankshaft sensor and it works fine after replacing it. My mechanic did tell me however that it could have been the starter itself that could have gone bad. Have them look at your starter. I have 2003 clk 320.

i couldn't get the shift to N...is there a shift lock? or i just need to step on the brake LOL? i will check the voltage after work today. didn't drive it today. one more info...i plug in the key and the lights are all light up and the side windows goes up and down however the moonroof (i had it tilted up) won't close when i push the close button...so i will check the voltage after work. hopefully it's just the battery...
thanks guys
