I have an interest in buying a 2004 CLK320 and from what I have read in other venues I have learned that this may not be such a great car after all even though it is so beautiful. Several owners expressed electrical problems, premature tire wear, yellowing headlight lenses, 3rd break light housing popping out, trunk lid opening while driving, leaving the car parked only to find when you return windows open, doors unlocked, so forth and so on.
ARE THESE JUST RANDOM or is this an epidemic of flawed engineering and design?
Before I sink $$$ into what really looks, feels, and handles surprisingly well is there any one that would never never buy or recommend this model???
I have had a 2004 CLK from new. Great car, 60,000 miles of pleasure. Only issue is it has a D2B bus rather than a MOST system which makes IPOD integration difficult. I ended up using Denison Gateway 500 to address the IPOD issue. Mileage has been 28 mpg (imperial). No issues or majour maintenance.
we purchased a clk320 in April and after a few little bugs the car has been great. One thing we have not been able to find however is the power door unlock, does this car have one? It has all options including the key less start, entry.
I got my 2005 CLK320 in May of this year. It isn't the most powerful car in the world, but it is one of the best looking cars I've ever owned. It is fun to drive and handles better than anything I've ever driven plus I've had no issues with it mechanically or electrically.

I would say that these are random problems.
My experience after 2.5 years ownership of my 2004 CLK is just very happy motoring. It's the best car I've ever owned.
My tire wear is average, no electrical problems, no yellowing lenses... but I do have a cracked 3rd brake light, which I am about to change myself. Hopefully the new design is better than the original.
Mine is a 2005 CLK200, have only just had the 3rd brake light crack about a month ago.
I'm not that impressed with tyre wear on the front, but I think I need an alignment or something, since they are only worn on the outside, the rest of the tread is OK.
