hey guys just got a CLK350 awsome car, I want to repace the air filters to give alittle hp and a more of a roar. which air filter is better K&N or BMC on prefromance and mabe evn some mpg??
On my previous ride my CLK430 I had the K&N (I didnt know that the BMC even existed at the time) It gave me a little hp... im talking about a LITTLE! The sounds went from a Boxer to a Doberman pinscher (which is barely louder) I now have a CLK500... I went with the BMC mainly because everyones keep swearing up and down that these filters are wayy better... There both work and sounds nice! Honestly, I didnt realize any major differences between the two, however the BMC felt ligther and sounded like more air was being sucked in*
thanks for the input sticky..really help full im probly going to go with K&N tho ever1 i ask says go with it...any other members opions please post upp thank youu
Got a BMC in my P-car...totally different beast....you really are not going to get any HP and any sound differences are just figments of your imagination (with K&N or BMC) on the CLK350
All those filter are just more porous, allowing more air to flow more freely through to the air intake system... This results in more noise so you think it has more power, but it also allows more dirty debris to pass through and coat your MAS sensors resulting in a shorter service life.
The factory air filter is the best for long engine life, if that is of concern.
Also if you clean and then over oil the filters, the excess oil will coat the MAS wire and result in a DTC error code.
There might be a 1 HP gain at 5,000 rpm but you can get that on a Good cool day without the air filter mod.
If you do High flow air filter, do it for the sound, not the power. There really isn't any power gains (roughly 2HP on dyno is what they show typically) although I will agree they sound much better. Also the 350 sport airbox does help that out as well so the two together might be a worthwhile combo. You will have to clean your MAS probably twice a year.
From all the negative reviews of green filters lately I'd be cautious about using anyone other than K&N, they have been the industry leaders for so long for a reason and I have NEVER had K&N fail on me ever which is why they have a million mile warranty. I have heard other brand filters all across the board fail though so I would be skeptical about trusting anyone else other than K&N, but its honestly up to you.
