I'm considering buying one of these right now but am a little concerned about gas mileage. What's realistic to expect for this car for town driving an highway driving, usually cruising at about 65-75 MPH?
If you are concerned about gas mileage, then consider the 06 CLK 350, 6 cylinder - 268 HP - 7 speed auto transmission... I get 31 mpg on a level highway using cruise control!!!
Couldn't be happier!!!
Good Luck ...
ps. I noticed that the price of Oil has come way down, but the price of GAS is still way up there!

Are you ready for a V8 and will it be your daily driver? worry also about service prices, tires( go really fast man trust me) brakes, rotors, routine upkeep. father has an 08 s550 and get 21 city which isnt bad but like 28hwy. he doesnt go over 70 but he drives 80 miles a day. fills up once a week with premium and costs 120 to fil up. Also if 1300 dollars for tires, 1200 for front pad and rotors, 900 for rear pad and rotors( without the labor hours) and 500-700 dollar maintenance fees sound alaring to you, then go with a smaller version since the bigger ones need a lot of maintenance.
My car has given me 25+ mpg @ 80+ mph, straight highway trip. Grand average for all miles is somewhere around 20-21, I don't have the car here to look at the computer, but that's close. As far as the previous reply goes, the tires on the 6 and 8 wouldn't be much if any different, and as far as brakes (and tires for that matter) go it's all how hard you push it. If I went a little slower on that trip I might have done a little better, but for what it is I'm pleased with what it does. I also have a F150 Lightning with a supercharged 5.4 V8 that drinks premium at between 12 and 16 mpg, so this is a pure pleasure.
Buying used is a great way to go if you have the time, let someone else take the huge first hit, and then enjoy it even more. Shop carefully there are bargains out there. I got mine in April for 40k, it had 28k miles at the time and was bought new in Sept 06. It needed
major detailing in and out, but now it looks like it should.
Good Luck!

Good choice on the 06 SLK... I had my eyes on that car too, but needed a little more room.. so the CLK was my choice!
SLK is a lighter weight car so it should get way over 30 mpg if you keep the pedal OFF the metal, which is hard to do in such a FUN car!
On the 06 CLK cars, you pull hard upwards on the air cleaner popping it off ... then turn it over and unscrew the zillion screws holding down the two air filter housing! Be careful putting the housing back on as it can be misaligned and not sit flush together. Then push the air filter back down over the engine.
If I cruise at 80+ I still get over 50 MPG (uk gallon) and it never dips below 40 mpg after driving round London all day.
the torque is 400Nm which is not a lot less than the 500
and it pulls from 800 rpm
it will be a very hard car to replace
I have a clk 500. It's not a daily driver and in fact, I hardly even take it on the freeway. lol
I get about 10mpg. On the freeway, its much closer to the 24 it's suppose to get. I only fill it up a couple times / month, so its not a big deal. You guys can keep those baby 6's. I like being able to wind up the 8.
