Transmission Problem

I have a 2003 CLK. It is in with my local dealership at the moment. They are telling me that the gearbox has had it, because coolant from the radiator has leaked in to it. They are telling me that I need to pay around 5K to get this fixed

I'm prepared to be corrected - but I am surprised to read that engine coolant goes anyhere near the gearbox..

Is this an auto transmission?

Its a Known Problem on SEVERAL Models ... The Trans Cooler is part of the Radiator
You will need a new radiator and Rebuild the Trans

Ask to talk to the District Service Manager from Mercedes
They should help you with Goodwill they pay for parts and you pay the labor

Do a search on the forums and take in proof that its a known problem
so they cant say wow we have NEVER seen this ...Yeah Right

Yet another reason to have a Extended Warranty

Man,dont give up!!
Mercedes Benz quality stinks,my auto transmission lasted only 77000 klms.Always serviced by MB owned dealership.Never ever offered extended warranty to me.
MB has not made a decent auto box since the old ZF days.

Ahhh - yes, I remember now. Wasn't that just with one supplier of 'faulty' radiators?
