Used w209 price range

I have been looking at purchasing a used '04-'06 CLK. I have seen that there are many models (both 320 & 500) that are available in the 20-24k range. These models usually have around 30k miles on them. But I have also seen very similarly spec'd models for between 27-30k. What is the difference? Options and mileage seem to be the same on some models, but yet the huge difference in price. I've been looking on ebay, mainly at sellers that are dealers. What is the typical price range for a used '04-'06 CLK 320/500 with about 30k miles on it?

mixfire,

I recommend using New Car Prices, Used Car Prices, Blue Book Value, Car Reviews - Official Kelley Blue Book Site to search for the fair market price/value of the '04-'06 CLK as well as new cars in your area.

The site also provide a used car listing... alot of the cars listed on here are also listed on ebay... when researching for my car, I noticed some cars where listed at a cheaper price on kbb than on ebay.. so start negotiating with the cheaper offer. Price range will vary based on the miles, year, options and condition of the car. Also you may see vehicle priced cheaper when it has had body damage or mechanical issues... beware of cars that have had front end collisions. MOST often you'll always have allignment issues. Get a CARFAX report (CARFAX used car VIN number search, auto history check, vehicle history reports) to see if the car has any reported repairs... and ask the seller alot of questions.. I must say also, the cheaper price doesn't always mean there are issues.. but it does cause an eyebrow to raise. However, sometimes your just at the right place at the right time... SCORE!

BTW, I was able to negotiate 5K below Invoice using the MSRP, Invoice, and Trade In values... on kbb.

Good Luck with your purchase..

I've already checked kbb. The problem is cars that go for around 28k on kbb you can find similarly spec'd models on ebay for 6-7k less. And it's none just one model, so you can suspect there's something wrong with the car, there are many models that have around 30-35k miles on them and they are selling for around 21-25k. You can find nearly exact models on ebay, with similar mileage and options, for 27-30k. These are both CLK 320 & 500 models.

This is what confuses me. I am unsure whether this is just dealer markup or just a really good deal. There are many models in the '04-'05 model years that have around 30-35k miles on them selling for 21-25k. You can check for yourself, so this is what makes me so doubtful. I can afford a CLK in the price range of 21-25k, but cannot afford all the way up to 30k.

I am on the same boat with you and I found a 320 with 44k miles for around $22k. It seems like a pretty good deal but the saving sure is far less compare to 04 CLK 55 AMG CAB that goes for round $29k. It's almost $100k new and the material it used sure is well worth the $29k.

I think going through autotrader, craig's list and ebay covers most of the ground. Anything more will just add little value in your research, unless you have a dealer friend that can take you to dealer only auction. With the economy now I am sure dealers will be more aggressive than ever to close the deal.

Good luck on your hunting.

I got my 04 CLK 500 w. 51,000 miles. Car fax clean, one owner, with up to date service records for $18,990. $20,300 cash out the door.
