I'm considering getting a CLK55, as after thinking about getting a new TSX as my daily driver I realized these cars are the same price used (or maybe a little more for a cherry one) and will be MUCH more fun to drive (rwd > fwd), not to mention I like a coupe better than a sedan.
So I'd like to know a few things...
-Can anyone point me to a model guide for the 2003-2005 models (years I'm interested in) ? Something that has all the standard features but mainly a listing of the options/packages and what was included so I know what packages and such I'm looking for.
I know Nav is an option I want however I'd like to know if Bluetooth is availible on any cars (if so what years) otherwise I might need to go aftermarket.
-What is prone to breakage on this car? Any well documented flaws? What do I look for when checking one out.
-Where can I look to find modifications? I'd really just like to do exhaust and maybe an ECU reflash, nothing major. Perhaps wheels/tires and tint as well.
The factory phone will need to be upgraded to work on modern networks, you can have a look at the Audio & Telematics Forum for that information. The first Sticky in that forum will have the upgrades you need.
I have not found anything " prone to breakage ".
As far as mods go an ECU reflash can be done to disable that factory governor. I don't know what HP increase you will honestly see though. The ESP on mine always activates when I put my foot into it to stop wheel spin.
You can turn the ESP off but then you have a big yellow caution light glaring at you while you drive. It is a quick car by most peoples standards, and is a AMG after all.

model years:
03-04 models are the same (don't think there was a convertible in 03 just a coupe). i almost bought an 04. went for 05.
04 has 17" wheels (05 has 18").
04 has CD based nav system (05 had dvd based system). don't think bluetooth is available on either.
reliability:
stick with the acura. the the benz is super fun to drive (tons of power) but you're looking at something that is out of warranty. and these cars break often and are expensive to fix. if u get one make sure it has a warranty. not that mercedes service is any good (sucks IMHO) but at least you have some coverage. i wouldn't touch one out of warranty with knowing the person that owned it and that it was maintained well.
I have an E class and am considering getting either a CL or CLK, probably CL
I found a '05 CL 55 that states it has the 493 hp engine
Would an '05 CLK 55 have the same engine? Was the supercharged 493hp only available on certain 55's ? I have seen the engine bay on a CLK 55 and it doesn't look like the same motor as the CL 55.
I've looked for this info but cannot find a simple breakdown of the following from say; 2000 to 2009
CL - 2000-2002 what engine and hp? 2003-04-05, what engine/hp?
CLK - same question
