Manual Clutch advice required

Hi, I'm here in the UK and have just brought an ex lease 270 Cdi Diesel with manual transmission (with Fuel here at $12/gallon including the rest of europe! diesels are the most sought after.)
The car has done 89k miles and I brought it over the phone without viewing (direct from the lease company, as such the price was very low for this model)
Car is faultless, apart from the clutch (its a stick shift-manual), the biting point is very low, just off the floor.
Does this mean the clutch is shot (the high mileage is mainly freeway, as the computer showers the average speed has been over 40mph, and 47 mpg overall)

My guess its thats is either the clutch slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder, have either of these got a reputation for failing?
and how big a job are these to change, especially the slave unit, whats the access like?

I have also brought a Command system for the w209 on ebay, am I right in thinking these can be turned into DVD players by entering the engineering mode and changing the settings?

Thanks in advance
Jon

Hi Jon - I can't answer either of your questions properly, maybe someone else can. I have a 2004 automatic CLK 240, and it has COMAND.

However from driving manually on all my previous cars, your clutch symptom suggests plate wear. Master & slave cylinder problems usually show as pedal 'dip' - ie the pedal will sink to the floor under steady foot pressure as the fluid leaks past the seals. If your clutch pedal is not doing that, your cylinders are probably OK. Is there plenty of fluid in the reservoir?

COMAND features vary with the year of manufacture. My 2004 model cannot take DVDs or be modified to fit an iPod interface, I was told by local my M-B dealership. You might be lucky.
