I own a 2007 CLK350 and I find MB GPS far from being intuitive, compared to its modern day portable cousins, say, street pilots - for example. Anyone having the same problems or just me?
Even the owner's manual is more like an overview than descriptive how-to's.
I have the same problem with my 2006 CLK nav. I am a user interface designer and find the logic completely illogical. I called MB USA and was told that MB is at least 5 years behind everyone else when it comes to electronics. I find this hard to accept. Nav Name search is done wrong, alt shows increments of 100 ft. only. and the list of subtle deficiencies goes on.
ANYONE know if there is source code to the firmware? I'm ready to take on reprogramming. Example; the radio in every Japanese car for the past 8 years+ displays the station call letters, and the name of the song playing. Easy? Not for MB. I find the user interface and features disgraceful for this class of vehicle.
A play on words. I read the manual, but I learned how to do most things by poking around the options. If you've ever worked with other GPS systems then you know what you 'should' be able to do. It's a matter of figuring out how to do with the MB Nav. NOT true. Many, many, many obvious features on even the cheapest hand-held navs can not be done in the MB. I pre-set the address of destinations before I leave the house and recall the later. I've plotted a course of several stops and it works great. I can't set the Lat/Long of a destination however, and if there is a Destination in memor starting with Z.. I have to use the little "nipple" cursor and scroll all the way to the end, instead of just moving it back one click from A to Z. When I want to find a restaurant in the city I'm in, I press Near You, then Names, The list of MacDonalds starts 3,000 miles away, not "near me." The list goes on of complaints. Not to mention the $200 CDRom upgrade to this years maps? This is a scam. Anyway, just sit in the car for a few hours and fiddle about with the setting. For the price MB charged to add in the Nav, this Nav is comparable to a $150 pocket Nav system.
