2005 CLK500 conv. lowering & rims

All,
I just picked up a 2005 CLK500 convertible to drive until my 2010 E550 sedan comes in. I also have an 03 E500 Sport that I lowered and put some 20" rims on. Love that car and want to perform the same mods on the CLK. With the E I lowered it at the dealer via the SDS computer. Very simple. But I don't believe the CLK has the airmatic suspension. So am I lookin at springs? Also would like to install some 19" o 20" rims. What's out there? I searched the forum but it doesn't seem there are many owners performing these mods, or at least not posting pics of them. Tire Rack didn't have anything interesting either. Still need to look at E-Bay though.

TIA,
Brian

I think you'd loose a lot of the performance if you put on 20s. I'd say lowered with 19s should do the trick and look very aggresive. I'm moving south and was thinking about trading in for a clk drop. Congrats on the purchase. What color? Any pics?

Thanks for the response! Curious as to why you feel I will lose performance with 20's ... the rolling diameter will be the same as with the 17's currently on the car. Or are you referring to weight? Just curious as I lost no noticeable performance or ride quality on my E500. Ended up with a triple black car ... I am having it checked out and serviced by my dealer right now. Will post some photos when I get it back and cleaned up!

Brian

Dependent upon the rim the weight will definately be a factor in addition to the ride quality suffering. You'll be on rubberbands trying to push that engine. I couldn't even get 19s when I lived in NYC because the roads were so bad I didn't want to bend a rim. I like a little meat on the tires.

The E is a bigger car and has air suspension I believe, the CLK does not.

Look forward to the pics.

I lowered mine with H&R springs and Bilstein HD shocks and struts. I went with 19" rims and I can't imagine having 20". The 19" look perfect especially if you going to lower the car. I attched some pics
