Sorry if this is a stupid question. This is my first Benz and I been reading in the manual and they said there is no Transmission dip stick. How is this possible if the transmission need trans oil to lubicate the gearings, etc.? Sorry all the automatic cars that I seen all have dip stick!
I was surprised to discover that. You probably do not have an engine oil dipstick either. MB workshops use a graduated 'measuring-stick' that suits various models. I bought one for the engine sump from the parts counter.
Regarding the transmission there are various stories of the ATF lasting for a) lifetime, or b) 80 - 100K miles. I understand that MB no longer recommend a) but some years back that was their service advice.
Be aware that the ATF level is particularly dependant on its temperature, so it should not be topped up when cold.

I think a few years ago, Mercedes decided the gearboxes would last the lifetime of the car on the original oil. I have heard of one gearbox with 500,000 miles still on the original oil. Unless it has a leak, or starts playing up, it should be fine. Same with the engines, no dipstick. Although that may have changed on later models as most people disliked this idea.
I just bought the car and I'm still working on getting it register (failed Safty inspection due to tinted windows). The vehicle only has 38.7k on it right now. I prob get the oil and trans dip stick from the dealer if you say they sell them.
I'm taking it to the dealership on the 19th of this month for some stuff. Having problem with the Smart key (have to be a 1/2inch away from the key hole), motor vibrate a bit (once in awhile) while it's in park, and the ashtray cover does not open (dirty track). and I have 1 malfunction on the dash and I don't know how to bring it up so I can read it.
Not expensive? People from other forums reported, it retail for $125 !!!!!!!!!
Was there not reports on the other forums about dealers refusing to sell the dipstick too, saying it was for their own workshop use only? I seem to recall some posts referring to it.
