Thinking of buying used CLK and have couple questions.

Hello to all.

I have been a BMW/Porsche guy for quite some time, but I am getting a little soft now that I am almost 40. I am thinking of buying a used clk. I have a few questions:

1)Where the 2003 models less reliable because of being the first model year?
2)Do the AMG versions ride that much harder and louder?
3)What does it take to get the black wood inside?
4)Where there any big changes from 2003-2004?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the 2003 models were the same as the 2004 models. The only problem I know of with the CLKs were when they changed to the 7 gear automatic transmissions and a larger engine redesignated as the 350s. Can't remember what the problems actually were. You can find more information on this on the forums.

The AMG versions did drive a bit stiffer and had a sportier feeling as a result. The power difference is definately noticable between the V6 and the V8s. If you have a lead foot you will most likely want the V8s. The sport suspension on the AMGs I believe is available as a sports package on the CLK500s as well.

If you want to change the trim of the interior, you may have to get a custom job done. To my knowledge there has only been the select trims available: Burlwood, Silver, or Carbon Fibre. If it did come with the "dark wood" finish you speak of you can order the trim from your MB stealership. I think they run anywhere from $700 upwards.

You may want to check out the other forum: www.mbworld.org, as I've found that one to be more active than here. The maturity level here is higher but if you need the info that's the forum to go to.

Hope this helps.

Good Choice

Rob,
You are not soft for considering a CLK. I recently purchased a 2005 CLK 500 off lease after owning 3 different Porsche's over the past 12 years.
I thought I'd miss having and driving a Porsche but I really don't.
If you find a CLK( 500-550 or AMG I recommend) that you like, the luxury , power and amenities that Mercedes Benz offer will only make you appreciate the choice you made.
You'll always cherish the time when you owned your Porsche but you'll have that same good feeling driving your CLK.
I really enjoy my car and everything about it.
Good luck with your decision.

I Would try and go for a later model W209 as several changers were made on the Early 209s

The AMG cars do have lower profile tires and sport shocks so yes it will ride firm..

The Black Birds Eye Maple wood CAN be ordered on a late 209 with the sport option...as I just bought a 2007 209 with the sport option That has ALL Black interior with the Black Birds Eye Maple wood...So If You wat the wood it can be done...BTW I replaced all the wood in my W210 wagon to Black Birds eye Maple wood..as it had the Brown Burl wood....It Made a HUGE Difference

If Interested in the wood contact Steve @www.MBENZNL.com Steve has sold me lots of hard to find goodies for my cars.
