MB took a pretty hard hit recently from consumer reports as I'm sure you all know. I was very close to buying a 2003 CLK55 AMG until that happened. I have been researching cars for months and despite the apparent quality issues I keep coming back to that car. It is exactly what I'm looking for in every way but I'm worried now that I will get a lemon. so my question is this:
What can you do to try to be sure a used Mercedes-benz isn't going to be a lemon. I'm flexible on the occassional minor thing but the car I'm looking at is a 2003 with 44k miles so it's nearing the end of its warranty.
See if the owner has past service records to share with you or even get the vin# and see if a Benz Dealer can give you the past service repairs.
Always check out a carfax report as well.
I just bought a used 2005 CLK 500 and It's a great car!!!
Good Luck
