I am new to this forum as i have recently purchased a 05 CLK 270 CDI in Obisdian Black... It's a fantastic car am loving every minute of it...
I am in the process of buying the Ipod interface accesory and am hoping that a fellow merc owner can advise me on how to install it in my CLK.. I assume it gets attached to something in the glove box.... has anyone got the installation manual???
i was surprised that the kit did not come with an installation manual, but realizing how simple the installation was i understand why.
i have an 06 CLK350 and assume the installation should be the same as yours.
1) remove the center console to remove the radio
- you can find detailed instructions on this somewhere on this forum, but it's very simple.
- pull out the cover on the transmission shifter
- you will find 2 screws that hold the astray in place underneath, unscrew them and pull out the ashtray part
- pull out the climate control piece (note these are all snapped in with clips - don't pull too hard to break the clips)
- pull out the top control console (one with the buttons for heated seats, parking sensor, etc. - again this is simply clipped in)
- now you should see 4 screws holding the radio in place - remove them to remove the radio.
2) on the right side of the glove box, you can pull open the plastic trim
- when you open the glove box, you will notice a round groove on the right side, which is where the ipod connector wil come in through - here you can pull open the plastic trim next to it and pop the round groove off to create the hole
- at the bottom of the glove box (way bottom, just above where your foot would be), there are 2 screws you can remove to fold down a plastic cover. remove the screws and lower fold back the cover. now you can route the ipod cable from the glove box to back of the radio
- note here that you can put the ipod interface box (black box that comes with the kit) on the right side, meaning when you fold back the bottom cover, you can feel around for some opening on the right side where you can push up the interface box
3) move the optical cable wire from the original wiring harness of the car to the one on the ipod interface
- now you can plug in the ipod interface and cables
- now plug back in the radio and attach the ipod and it should work
4) go to the Benz dealer to have them program the car such that it thinks the car phone is available (if you don't have the hands free kit installed then the instrument cluster should be programmed so that there is no phone - this needs to be changed so that it is programmed to think a phone exists in order for your to use the ipod menu options on the steering wheel).
i know this may be tough without pictures... i may just take apart my car again just to take pictures of the installation and post them here. good luck!
Do i need to have the COMMAND installed in my clk in order to be able to have the Ipod Kit or it ca be interfaced with the standard Audio 20 Single Cd?
it will work with either the command or audio20... it essentially uses the AUX port (on the audio 20 you press and hold the CDC button) and the display/controls are on the instrument cluster/steering wheel.
I have CLK 350 year 2006 with audio 20. Asked MB service to install the ipod kit but they could not get it to work so had to uninstall it. Talked to MB callcenter who advised the ipod kit does not function for 2006 models with audio 20 radio. But I am now confused reading this forum. Does it work as described for Audio 20 on 2006 modell car?
It works fine with the 2006 CLK350 with Audio 20, which is the setup I have. What couldn't they get to work? Could you let me know the issues or errors they were getting? I hope they realize how to switch to AUX on the Audio 20 (by holding the CDC button).
I know the IPOD kit isn't available, but there is an AUX input for the your car if you have command ( or Not ). do you have command ?if so, you are in luck.. Hit me up I have the part numbers to the harness you need. I will check to see if it works for the Non command radio as well..
