I have a 2004 CLK 500 and the dealer says the ipod kits is not compatible.
They also told me the auxillary input is not available from my car as well. WTF.
Now I have to rip the system out and replace
Does anybody ever determine if it is possible to have any sort of iPod integration in a 2004 CLK 500 that does not have Comand Navigation? I'm about to buy the car, but the dealership won't give me a straight answer. Just wondering! many thanks...
I think that possibly some of you guys are approaching this in-car iPod problem the wrong way....
Did you know that there is a cheap iPod accessory that will solve it for you?
Product Description
If you have an iPod mini you need an iTrip mini. The iTrip mini FM transmitter lets you play your iPod mini's music wirelessly through any FM radio in your car, on the road, even at home through your stereo. The iTrip mini was designed exclusively for the iPod mini. Its form factor matches perfectly all the curves and lines of the iPod mini. It sounds even sweeter.
i was surprised that the kit did not come with an installation manual, but realizing how simple the installation was i understand why.
i have an 06 CLK350 and assume the installation should be the same as yours.
1) remove the center console to remove the radio
- you can find detailed instructions on this somewhere on this forum, but it's very simple.
- pull out the cover on the transmission shifter
- you will find 2 screws that hold the astray in place underneath, unscrew them and pull out the ashtray part
- pull out the climate control piece (note these are all snapped in with clips - don't pull too hard to break the clips)
- pull out the top control console (one with the buttons for heated seats, parking sensor, etc. - again this is simply clipped in)
- now you should see 4 screws holding the radio in place - remove them to remove the radio.
2) on the right side of the glove box, you can pull open the plastic trim
- when you open the glove box, you will notice a round groove on the right side, which is where the ipod connector wil come in through - here you can pull open the plastic trim next to it and pop the round groove off to create the hole
- at the bottom of the glove box (way bottom, just above where your foot would be), there are 2 screws you can remove to fold down a plastic cover. remove the screws and lower fold back the cover. now you can route the ipod cable from the glove box to back of the radio
- note here that you can put the ipod interface box (black box that comes with the kit) on the right side, meaning when you fold back the bottom cover, you can feel around for some opening on the right side where you can push up the interface box
3) move the optical cable wire from the original wiring harness of the car to the one on the ipod interface
- now you can plug in the ipod interface and cables
- now plug back in the radio and attach the ipod and it should work
4) go to the Benz dealer to have them program the car such that it thinks the car phone is available (if you don't have the hands free kit installed then the instrument cluster should be programmed so that there is no phone - this needs to be changed so that it is programmed to think a phone exists in order for your to use the ipod menu options on the steering wheel).
i know this may be tough without pictures... i may just take apart my car again just to take pictures of the installation and post them here. good luck!
How much did the dealer charge to program the comand and cluster? Thanks

I don't think you can simply replace and install a new command either. From my understanding the wiring in the electrical system has changed and are not interchangeable between the new and the old system.
I am new to this forum as i have recently purchased a 05 CLK 270 CDI in Obisdian Black... It's a fantastic car am loving every minute of it...
I am in the process of buying the Ipod interface accesory and am hoping that a fellow merc owner can advise me on how to install it in my CLK.. I assume it gets attached to something in the glove box.... has anyone got the installation manual???

I have a 05 CLK, if I press and hold the CDC button on the Audio 20, the screen on the radio and dash both say AUX ACTIVE. Does anyone know if the Aux input on the Audio 20 is a standard size and my MP3 player can be connected to it without any special MB parts?
