2004 Cracked 3rd brake light

I also had to replace mine (clk 320 2004). Cost 217 installed. I think the problem is how abrupt the trunk opens. Now I always catch the trunk when opening to absorb some of the shock.

I just had to replace mine as well. The new lense they recplaced it with seems A LOT thicker than the original and should hold up well.

I've had my clk500 for 4-5months and I did not realize that this was that big of an issue. is there a TSB anywhere that will allow me to take it to dealership and get it replaced free? I noticed it 2nd day after driving away from the dealership. Thanks.

I bought my car in Sept 04, 3 year warranty ran out a week ago. I am up to my # 4th # faulty center brake light. (original plus 3 replacements). The last one was replaced only 4 months ago.

I have hit the dealer with a request to replace it again and they have initally refused. I have escalated the issue to Merecedes principal office in my state (Victoria, Australia) and they are giving me the run around.

However, I expect to get it replaced again under warranty, but that is not my #1 dilemma.

The real problem is what about the next light and the next light after that one etc.

Does anyone have any official announcement from MB about this problem that I may be able to go back to my Local MB dealer and hit them with it ?

i have a 2003 new body clk and i just noticed my centre break lights were cracked a month ago. i just left the crack and yesterday a little piece of the cracked part fell off . does anyone know if the rain is going to break the lights??

Now had 3 lights replaced with last one out of warranty but replaced free!!!

I don't drive my car much now that we're into the winter months here in NY.
My car sat in the garage for the past two weeks, so I took it out for a ride and when I got back home I noticed the brake light on the trunk was dangling inside of it and cracked.
I was pretty upset but I then remembered seeing the "Cracked 3rd Brake Light" index on this forum. I started to feel better when I read that most were replaced with no charge from Mercedes.
I called the dealer and they're going to replace it for free
I still have some time left on my warranty so if another one goes I should be OK.
I just hope it doesn't crack again after my warranty runs out.
I'm really glad I rememberd this forum.

The 3rd brake light fell on my 04 CLK 500 today. I was like WTF? I just picked it up from the dealership from service today. It's going back in on Monday to a different dealership.

How do you get it replaced out of warranty?? the links don't work on page 1 and 3 of this thread...i have searched multiple pages and titles for this... getting no where and getting frustrated with this damn benz! love the car, hate the minor problems....please help resolve and not just post the "please use the search...." Tried it, end up going in circles....

Mine is still under factory warrenty. I also have extended warrenty as well.
