RE: 2004 Cracked 3rd brake light

I have had mine replaced 2 times at 2 different dealerships. Service manager told me it was a known problem with the CLKs due to the structural rigidity of the car. You will likely have a few more to replace, but I was told that MB is aware of it and will always replace it as a warranty item. Good luck.

On the bright side, I much prefer having to replace a 3rd brake light over, say, an engine.

Wouldn't it be cool if someone made a clear lens and you could use a red bulb??

Mine hasn't cracked yet, but I'm keeping a "third" eye on it...

Cracked 3rd brake light - MB UK "offer to replace"

Got my CLK A-service done at MB Redhill, Surrey, UK and mentioned the fact that the lens was cracked and had evidence from forums like this that it was a known problem. Got blanked. Also mentioned the auto dipping wing mirror problem - see separate post. Ditto. Held out and they have now offered a 50:50 split - cost to me GBP 180/warranty gratuity to have both fixed. Any thoughts?
Also, I know the capacity of the engine/sump is large, and the very best oil used is Mobil 1, but is GBP 103 an accurate average cost of replacing?

Hell no.... What's the point in that? if they charge you for the service, they are still liable to fix your light ANd what ever is wrong with your mirror. I don't get it?Unless they are going to still fix the Problems PLUS give you a breqk on the service, then if that'a the case I say Hell yes!!
