Staggered or not ?

I plan to upgrade the stock wheels/tires of my 2004 CLK320 coupe to 17-inch in the summer.

I will probably buy those wheels that come with CLK55 (double spoke) or CLK500 (single spoke). I am not sure if I should keep the staggered configuration or not. The staggered setup looks slightly better and offers better handling (slightly again). Problem is shorter tire life because of no tire rotation.

My MB service manager told me that the brake system and ESP are tuned for the staggered setup and I should not change it. I sent an email to Mercedes Canada and they said the same thing.
