I've noticed a whining noise when I drive spirited. It sounds like it's coming from underneath the car by the left rear wheel I suspect it is the fuel pump. It will come and go. 2003 clk55
Will post video clip soon

UPDATE
Car started running roughly over the weekend and died. A couple days later it started up fine but died again shortly after getting off the freeway . I thought it was the CPS but wanted to have it diagnosed properly. Good thing I did because it turns out to be the fuel pump. Dealer wants $1250 for the pump. I found one on ECS tuning.com for $1000. And one on eBay from somebody who bought the wrong part for $800(might be able to get cheaper)
My one question is are there any pumps for cheaper?or can I use an aftermarket pump? or is $800 the cheapest pump that I can get?
Thanks guys

What part number are you using?

- MB clk55 fuel pump 2094700194 $239.85 huskerparts.com (Mercedes online parts) parts geek others and have fuel pumps from~ $217.00 they may even be the same manufacturer MB uses just the manufacturers name instead of MB. All listed fuel pumps for the CLK must meet fit, form and function.

My EPC lists 3 numbers for a 2003 CLK 55 AMG fuel pump - termed by MB as 'Delivery Unit, with fluid level sensor'. Located in the fuel tank.

1) A 2034703494. to chassis F096973 to 30/11/03. (Also used on C32)
2) A 2034704694. from chassis F096974 from 30/11/03, (Also used on C32) replaced by
3) A 2094700594. from chassis F096974 from 30/11/03. (also used on C32 and CLK 500/CLK550.

I found A 2094700194 & A 2094700294 both listed for CLK 500, so may not suit the CLK 55 AMG.

I'm confused here. Isn't your pump/filter inside the fuel tank?

My WIS says that the feed unit (pump) and the filter form a unit, and should be replaced as a pair. If you have already opened up the fuel tank, with all that entails, you have done the hard stuff.

That ring nut needs 85Nm torque when tightening.

MB must have different configurations based on production date and serial, my car is one of the early production date models, 03/03 and serial number is FO52119. The fuel pump on my 2003 CLK55 is external. When my car was under warranty the MB dealership told me there was two configurations one with an internal fuel pump (more expensive) and the other with an external fuel pump.

True, it sounds like Cobrab19 has worked on the fuel pump and filter before, so he does know if he has an internal pump.

Would you please post the WIS for the internal and external fuel pumps configurations for the W209?

Thanks!
Thanks guys ya my filter is external the pump is in the tank and can be accessed under the seats. The pump I need is 203 470 34 94 cheapest so far is 800 through eBay. Ya they seem to have a lot of different configurations for these cars.

Many times researching for parts I have found you have to select 2004 for the CLK55 although it seems ALL sites list the CLK500. 2003 was the first year of the new body style and several sites do not list the 2003 model year CLK55.

Noted the fuel pump part number you provided 203 470 34 94 starts with 203 which designates 203 chassis, since the W209 is basically a W203 with a larger AMG engine and the chassis outfitted and tuned by AMG. It seems strange the early production model CLK55 did not have the 2034703494 fuel pump, although there is no access under the rear seat to the fuel tank. ALL model year CLK55 after 2003 have in tank fuel pumps.

What is your VIN?

Good luck searching for the fuel pump!

No - I don't think so. W208s always had both pump & filter under the car.

Early W209s have filter under the car and the pump inside the tank. Later W209s have both filter & pump inside the tank. However, the 'changeover' depends on the engine number, which is different for the filter and the pump!

Ref parts.com, did you find this page? It refers to CLK 55 also.

Cobrab, you have a W209.376, with engine number 113.987 60 040036 from your data card below.

The fuel filter location changed at engine number 054399, so yours is early.
The fuel pump design changed at engine number 096471, so yours is early.

Others engines will have a different combination. Here are the 4 arrangements from my WIS:
